Playing a leading role in Czech New Wave, Věra Chytilová took advantage of a general tendency in Czechoslovakia towards liberalization for experimenting and innovating new forms of cinema. A recognized feminist, she fought against all types of domination with an artistic expression free of representative conventions. Her film «Daisies» triggered lots of discussions within officials for its avant-gardist complexity, its nihilistic content, and those outrageous scenes of food wasting. She claimed the destruction of a materialistic society criticized its dehumanization and self-contentment. The film was officially condemned in 1967 after its selection in a festival in Western Europe but did not affect the release of «The Fruit of the Paradise» (1970), the last film before the soviet repressive answer to the Spring of Prague that will end the Czech New Wave.
