According to an urban legend, a street called Toad Road in the small city of York, Pennsylvania, leads to the gates of hell. Based on this story, Jason Banker has assembled a group of amateur actors and hardcore revellers with a surprising talent for improvisation, for the purpose of a cinematographic project in between fiction and documentary. Without yielding to the «fakumentary» genre, the director portrays a local youth whose self-destructive behavior will lead the protagonists into dreadfully dark waters. Shot with a ridiculous budget and a bunch of amateurs performing in disconcerting ways, «Toad Road» succeeds in shattering all conventions, for a result that is definitely baffling. Jason Banker has collaborated with Jonathan Caouette on the documentary «All Tomorrow's Parties» and has been the associate producer for «Tarnation» (2003). «Toad Road» is his first full-length film. This year he is also releasing the documentary «My Name Is Faith» before he undertakes «Squatter», another documentary about the squat culture in New York's East Village. (JB)
